About this bond

Infratil Limited is one of New Zealand's largest listed infrastructure investors. The IFT270 bonds are senior unsecured obligations of Infratil, quoted on the NZX Debt Market under ticker IFT270.

The 6.78% coupon is fixed for the life of the bond and paid semi-annually in arrears. Principal is repaid at maturity on 15 December 2028 unless the issuer redeems earlier under the bond terms.

Because this is an existing listed bond, investors buy at the current market price (which may be above or below face value) rather than subscribing to a new offer. The yield to maturity will therefore differ from the 6.78% coupon rate.

Key risks

  • Credit risk: repayment depends on Infratil and the performance of its underlying infrastructure assets.
  • Regulatory risk: changes to utility or airport regulation could affect revenue.
  • Refinancing risk: principal must be refinanced or repaid at maturity in 2028.
  • Liquidity risk: you may not be able to sell on market at the price or time you want.
  • Interest rate risk: if market rates rise, the market value of the bond may fall below face value.
  • Price risk: buying above face value will reduce your yield to maturity below the 6.78% coupon.
